Lignin as Resource

Natural Biopolymer Lignin

Lignin is a natural component of lignocellulose derived from agricultural & forestry residues. Besides Cellulose, lignin is the second most abundant plant polymer. Lignin can be understood as a biochemical similar to cellulose an is able to be used e.g. in 3D printing and injection molding, in insulating materials and adhesive tapes but also in the cosmetics and food sector use.

 Lignin is

  • Non-food renewable resource
  • Non-GMO
  • Sustainable & eco-friendly
  • Vegan & gluten-free

LignoPure Lignin

Although lignin is already a by-product of large amounts as waste material from paper mills, it is heavily contaminated with chemicals in this case and is not suitable for use in the consumer goods sector. The few biorefineries of new generations already operating on a large scale, on the other hand, mostly focus on sugar production. Although this produces high-quality lignin, it has not yet found its way into high-quality products and is mostly burned. Lignin-based products are virtually inaccessible to the end user.

LignoPure overcomes these hindrances across its value chain! With LignoPure, we would like to change this and specifically establish products based on lignin on the market, for the first time acting as a link between the biorefineries and the processing industries in the materials and life sciences sector.Lignin is multifunctional and can e.g. be used as an antioxidant. Thus, it is more than just a biobased filler! In addition, lignin can be produced much more favorably than existing bio-based solutions (such as cellulose, chitosan or polylactic acid) and thus gives the customer a clear price advantage.

In research and development, projects on the subject of lignin-based products usually focus on thermal and / or chemical conversion into liquid basic chemicals. But lignin in its original form  as a solid powder also shows enormous potential to be used in high-quality products. And the particle properties (size, shape, porosity, surface, etc.) allow the lignin to be adapted to a wide variety of applications. And that is precisely the expertise of LignoPure. As a team, we have years of experience in lignin recovery and processing and understand both supplying and processing industries.

Biobased Functionality

LignoPure lignin is biobased functionality! It is a natural antioxidant, food supplement & pharmaceutical excipient,
raw material for insulation materials, 3D-printed polymers… and many more!
